Welcome! You can find information here about my poetry in general, as well as my three collections–Finding Ourselves in Alzheimer’s, Fill in the Blank, and Razed Lutheran.
Finding Ourselves in Alzheimer’s is a series of poems reflecting on the last few years of my father’s life. As the title suggests, the book is not so much about loss as it is about gain…learning to find the good in a tangled mess of emotions, choosing to be fully present as we step into another’s diminishing world.

Fill in the Blank is a collection of 65 carefully selected poems written over the past ten years or so; approximately one-third of the pieces have been published regionally. The poems do not appear in chronological order, but flow through the common themes of life and death and wonder…leaving the reader plenty of room to wonder, to fill in the blanks and find their own stories and emotions in what is left unsaid.

Razed Lutheran is a collection of 27 poems depicting life as a rural Wisconsin German Lutheran from the early 1900’s through present. This is a tender and reverent look at religion at its best and worst. The book opens with “The Church at Phipps,” describing a farm woman who prepares the sanctuary for services after milking her cows, and ends with a desperate suggestion a hundred years later to “Burn All the Books.” The poems weave together a lifetime of innocent faith and deep questions, creating a book that both challenges and inspires.
